Shell Canada is currently seeking Process and Technical Safety Engineers, for our Calgary, AB location.
 
Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:
  • The purpose of this role is to plan, execute and deliver Process and Technical Safety Engineering to Shell.  This role is part of a team that delivers technical expertise in technical safety to engineering and process safety managment for both projects and exisint assets.
  • Provide technical safety engineering support for projects including technical studies relating to facility design over the lifecycle of a project development of studies as key inputs to the 'Concept Select and Design HSE Cases' (e.g. Hazards and Effects Management Process and tools, bow-tie analysis, HSE activity plans assurance activities, Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), safety crititcal elements identification, and performance standards).
  • Review technical standards (Desgin and Engineering Practices) to ensure these are appropriate and fit for purpose in HSE risk management content.
  • Provide HSE leadership through continuous improvement in Asset Integrity Process Safety Management for both projects and existing assets.
  • Provide technical leadership on safety engineering and procoess safety in projects through continuous improvement and communication. 
  • Deliver technical engineernig support to upstream or downstream assets integrating with operations facilities to ensure asset integrity and process safety management.
  • Assure technical safety engineering content through technical authority status in area of qualification.
  • Provide expert input to peer reviews for major projects or assets.
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers within team.


Requirements:
  • Significant experience in technical safety engineering, preferably gained through major project work within the oil and gas industry or through site operations support.
  • BS or MS in Engineering or Advanced Science degree.
  • Minimum 10 years oil and gas industry experience.
  • Skilled or knowledgeable in technical safety risk assessment tools (such as HAZID, HAZOP, physical effects modeling an QRA).
  • Good knowledge of engineering codes and standards such as ISO, API, NFPA and Energy Institute and their application in the oil and gas industry.
  • Good knowledge of HSE risk decision making and dcoumenting arguments for selected course of action.
  • Skilled or knowledgeable in process safety management systems.
  • Self-assured, confident, able to execute position responsibilities with minimal guidance.
  • Strong planning, coordination, and leadership skills.
  • Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work within teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Willingness to travel.
